The Blackwood Environment Society(BES) is a not-for-profit conservation group formed in 1988 by environmentally concerned residents in the Shire of Bridgetown – Greenbushes.
BES aims to encourage and educate the public on all matters relative to greater awareness of the environment and to encourage and undertake action to protect, maintain, restore and rehabilitate the environment.
BES has acted locally in a very practical way for over 35 years. We have worked closely with our local government to manage local bushland reserves through a long standing “Helping Hands” program in which volunteers weed, revegetate, and look after shire reserves.
BES operates the Bridgetown Community Landcare Nursery, established in 1992, which annually produces 30, 000+ native plants from seed sourced locally.
